Weekend Morning Host (Anchor/Multi-Skilled Journalist (MSJ)
ABC10, the TEGNA station in Sacramento, CA, has an immediate opening for a Weekend Morning Host/Multi-Skilled Journalist. We're looking for a great storyteller who can connect with an increasingly diverse audience on several platforms at once with genuine personality and immersive journalism. ABC10 sets the bar on how local content is covered and delivered. We are not a TV station; we are an information network creating engaging content that takes our audience on a journey. We want journalists who can create unique and shareable stories for all platforms through memorable writing, photography and video editing. Hosting includes reading written copy, ad-libbing a variety of live segments and conducting live interviews on various platforms.
The ideal candidate also appreciates the responsibility and newsroom leadership that accompanies the high-visibility position of host and can help set an example for colleagues in work ethic and collaboration. Our goal is to serve our weekend morning audience by delivering impactful, hard news - first and foremost - while also bringing the energy and excitement needed to help start their day.

As a Host/Multi-Skilled Journalist you will:
- Show strong content judgement, writing and production skills
- Host/anchor shows live from ABC10
- Deliver active, engaging live shots and standups with current technology
- Develop story sources and use social listening to bring unique, community-based pitches to editorial discussions.
- Write, shoot and edit content for on-air broadcasting, digital posting and social sharing
- Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic way
- Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility
- Operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations
- Write for the web and social media platforms, including attaching images and streaming video
- Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (“user generated content”/UGC,
virtual/zoom interviews, etc.) to enhance stories - Be a team player, comfortable with the pressures of live shows and creating daily content for various platforms
- Participate in station appearances, as ABC10’s representative in the community
Here’s what you need:
- BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
- Minimum of 2 years working in journalism, communications or related field required
- Bilingual (English- & Spanish-speaking) preferred
- Experience in photojournalism, editing and content management systems
- Knowledge of professional journalistic standards as related to on-air, digital and social presentation
- Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots, with strong on-air presence and delivery skills
- Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Facebook and Twitter
- Knowledge of ENPS (scripting) and Edius (editing) a plus
- Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
- Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
