WEEKEND METEOROLOGIST/MSJ REPORTER
KIII 3NEWS has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a weekend meteorologist/weekday MSJ reporter.
While this is not considered an entry-level position, we welcome all resumes and will consider each candidate based not only on experience but also on potential. We will compensate based on your level of experience.
KIII 3News is a competitive, professional newsroom that thrives on winning breaking news and weather coverage. Our anchors are experienced pros who are also great mentors. Our reporters are driven to find the big story or a unique element that will win over viewers.
The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, be a team player, have an engaging personality and a passion for winning severe weather. They will be an integral part of severe weather coverage and must be capable of sustaining long-form continuous coverage for severe weather events. Most meteorologists love science, but KIII 3NEWS meteorologists take science stories and tell them in such a way that all audiences on all platforms can understand.
The position also requires excellent journalism and broadcasting judgment as they fill the role of a reporter three days a week. Applicant must have excellent writing, research and editing skills along with the ability to articulate and communicate well.
Working knowledge of WSI and Edius is a plus.
We place great emphasis on our social media platforms as well, so experience with all different forms is a must!
- Prepare and present accurate weather forecasts for a variety of time periods and dayparts
- Interact live with the audience on multiple platforms, especially during severe or disruptive weather
- Track and warn viewers of severe weather during continuous coverage
- Produce weather news and use engaging graphics
- Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
- Work in the field to show various elements of severe weather situations
- Write for the web and various social media platforms, including attaching images and streaming video
- Ability to work various shifts including early mornings and evenings
- Perform other tasks as required by the chief and other news managers
- Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology preferred
- Minimum of 2 years on-air experience is preferred but will consider entry level
- Exceptional online and social media skills
- Must actively participate in social media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
- Knowledge of WSI necessary and knowledge of Edius a plus
