KGW is looking for a creative, quick-thinking and innovative Producer to join “The Story with Dan Haggerty.”
Have you had that moment where you watch all the local newscasts at 6 p.m. and they look the same? That will never be the case with The Story. We’re looking for a producer who believes in the power of local journalism and is committed to smashing the mold of what a local newscast can and should be.
The Story stands out by diving deep into local topics and engaging every single day with our viewers in an authentic way. They speak, we listen. They ask, we answer. We ask, they respond. Engagement – the smart kind – truly drives how we create this show. We're not "different" just to say we're different. We educate our audience on things like gentrification, the history of the Pacific Northwest, and the difference between disinformation and misinformation.
You must have strong knowledge of both local and national news. You must be able to work alongside anchor Dan Haggerty to write scripts in a conversational tone, matching his personality and delivery. You can watch recent shows on our YouTube playlist (Go to YouTube and search for 'The Story with Dan Haggerty' to find our playlist on the KGW YouTube channel) to get a sense of what we mean.
You must think beyond just the broadcast. This show is designed to serve our audience regardless of platform. You should be familiar with best practices on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and understand SEO and how to use those platforms to continue a conversation.
