Do you have a passion for both news and sports and want to tell stories in South Texas? KIII-TV, the TEGNA station in Corpus Christi, TX, is looking for a storyteller that is equally adept at shooting, writing, editing and fronting a high school sports story one day and then turning a compelling news package about a city issue the next. We want journalists dedicated to a digital-first mindset who work to connect with our audience at the hyper-local level and tell their stories. This is a hybrid role, and we need someone who will embrace that job diversity with equal passion in both roles. In the fall, we produce a weekly high school football show called Sports Blitz. We need someone to co-anchor that show, shoot high school football, and front hyper-local sports packages from the studio on the weekend. Then they would also shoot, write, edit, and report live on high-impact news stories for 3 days during the week.

 

Responsibilities:

• Write, shoot and edit engaging news and sports content for digital, on-air broadcasting and social sharing

• Produce and anchor unique sportscasts that break through traditional sports segments and go well beyond just highlights

• Co-anchor 30-minute high school football show

• Develop story sources and use social listening to bring unique, community-based pitches to editorial discussions

• Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Facebook and Twitter

• Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic way

• Deliver active, engaging live shots and standups with current technology

• Operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations

• Write for the web and social media platforms, including attaching images and streaming video​​

Requirements:

• BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field

• Minimum of 2 years working in journalism, communications or related field required

• Bilingual (English- & Spanish-speaking) preferred

• Experience in photojournalism, editing and content management systems

• Knowledge of professional journalistic standards as related to on-air, digital and social presentation

• Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots, with strong on-air presence and delivery skills

• Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Facebook and Twitter

• Knowledge of ENPS (scripting) and Edius (editing) a plus

• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines

• Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news and sports situations and changing events​​
