KSDK 5 On Your Side (NBC), St. Louis, the nation’s 23rd market, is recruiting a creative and passionate leader to oversee all aspects of our broadcast news platform. The ideal candidate will embrace KSDK’s high standards of creating relevant, compelling, and impactful content with a laser focus on breaking news, weather and sports; engaging storytelling; and investigative excellence. The ideal candidate brings an interest and track record of growing young talent. Our News Director will also take an active role in staff training and recruiting.

St. Louis is a highly competitive market, with a mix of news, sports and weather that guarantees multiple lead story options each day! The News Director will work collaboratively with KSDK’s news and station management to ensure newscasts are both relevant to the needs of our diverse audience through owning the day’s big story, being consistent in presentation, and giving our audience context, plus exclusive information.

We are in every way “One Content Team.” The News Director is a co-newsroom number two along with the Director of Digital Content, both reporting to KSDK’s Director of Content.  All three work closely to bring the “5 On Your Side” brand to life across all platforms, catering to audiences who increasingly consume news on-the-go.

For smaller market news directors, this is a chance to lead a 91-person news team in a region where the news is 24/7. For mid-level managers, it’s a rare opportunity to prove you have what it takes to lead the room.

  • Lead all daypart teams to create unique newscasts that showcase KSDK’s high-quality content.
  • Coach a talented team of senior producers and producers to execute newscasts in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner including showcasing, storytelling, presentation, and developing new segments.

  • Be a key voice in the KSDK editorial process.
  • Use research and analytics to guide editorial decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Director to ensure alignment of broadcast and digital platforms and teams.
  • Oversee planning of special events.
  • Oversee major breaking news coverage.
  • Collaborate with the Special Projects Director on the creation of immersive investigative stories for all platforms.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Director of Content.

  • College degree in journalism, communications, or related field
  • At least 10 years of news experience preferred, including supervision and leadership of other journalists.
  • Skills in overseeing and producing engaging, urgent, high-value content-driven newscasts.
  • Strong writing, a must.  Special programming experience, a plus.
