WPMT in York, PA is looking for an experienced News Director to lead day-to-day editorial coverage, while overseeing content creation and distribution across multiple platforms.
We are looking for a courageous leader who embraces creative storytelling and investigative journalism as key components of newscasts as well as digital and social platforms. Our ideal candidate is a proven editorial leader with strong news judgment, a deep understanding of video/television storytelling and a passion for innovation. In addition, there should be a highly developed ability to coach reporters, anchors, digital producers, production crew and photographers of all experience levels.

Lead the newsroom in execution of the station's brand
Lead the newsroom to create unique, engaging and rich storytelling experiences to grow a loyal audience across all platforms
Recruit and hire top-notch journalists for all platforms
Direct the news gathering team to ensure we are serving our audience and to keep on top of breaking news and story leads
Be the voice of innovation in the newsroom and inspire others to follow your lead
Develop and implement workflows that deliver our content 24/7 across current and future platforms with storytelling that is optimized for each screen
Collaborate with content leaders across TEGNA to maximize the sharing of our content and to leverage innovation and best practices among stations
Teach, coach, and mentor the entire newsroom in best practices for writing and producing content
Hold newsroom employees accountable to TEGNA's ethical and editorial standards
Use consumer analytics to determine content
Skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content
Interact daily with all department heads in a mutual effort to achieve station goals and extend our brand.
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, related field or equivalent experience
7-10 years of content experience, including generation of original content and 2-3 years managing other journalists
Solid journalistic judgment and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair and unique local content, along with community engagement
Passion and vision for emerging media and new storytelling techniques
Proven skills in producing engaging newscasts and digital content
Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and the ability to deal with the rapid pace of news
Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work under time pressure deadlines
Knowledge of principles of ethical journalism
Ability to be on-call or work flexible shifts across days, nights or weekends
