ABC10 is looking for a creative and passionate leader to oversee all aspects of our broadcast news platform. The ideal candidate will embrace ABC10’s high standard of creating relevant, compelling, and important content for newscasts, websites, and social media channels with a focus on breaking news, storytelling, and investigative excellence.

The News Director will work collaboratively with ABC10  leaders and staff to ensure newscasts are comprehensive: showcasing the latest information, being trustworthy, giving our audience all the facts on the important stories of the day, and unique, high-impact stories.

The News Director is a co-newsroom number two along with ABC10’s Digital Content Director, responsible for bringing the “We Stand for You” brand to life across all platforms and sustaining it.

 In this role, you will:

  • Lead all daypart teams to create unique newscasts that showcase ABC10’s high-quality content.
  • Coach a talented team of executive producers and producers to execute newscasts in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner including showcasing, storytelling, presentation, and developing new segments.
  • Coach on-air anchors and reporters to perform in an engaging manner.
  • Lead recruitment efforts for broadcast producers and anchors.
  • Be a key voice in the ABC10 editorial process.
  • Use research and analytics to guide editorial decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Director to ensure alignment of broadcast and digital platforms and teams.
  • Oversee department budgets and schedules.
  • Oversee planning for special events.
  • Oversee major breaking news coverage.
  • Collaborate with the EP of Special Projects on the creation of immersive investigative stories for all platforms.
  • Perform other tasks as required by the Director of Content.



Job Requirements

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field,
  • 4-6 years of experience preferred, including supervision and leadership of other journalists.
  • Skills in overseeing and producing engaging, urgent, high-value content-driven newscasts.
  • Special programming or entertainment producing a plus.
  • Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) speaking preferred.
  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems.
  • Understanding the tenets of professional journalism.
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, and Axis graphics a plus.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
  • Ability to calmly handle live breaking news situations and changing events.
