WBIR, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Knoxville, TN, is looking for a creative, innovative and experienced News Director to lead day-to-day editorial coverage while overseeing content creation and distribution across multiple platforms.

Job Responsibilities
Strategically lead, inspire and manage News Department with a competitive and innovative spirit in everything we do
Lead the newsroom in fulfillment and execution of the station's “Straight from the Heart” brand
Lead a newsroom culture dedicated to owning enterprise reporting and breaking news across all content platforms
Inspire and coach superior, unique and engaging storytelling
Oversee and collaborate with Digital Content Director on editorial strategy for daily content creation and distribution across all platforms
Use consumer analytics to determine content
Work closely with the news team to produce high-quality, relevant, local content that sets the station apart from competitors
Recruit and hire top notch journalists for all platforms
Foster, encourage and reward out-of-the-box thinking that leads to differentiation and success
Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
Work closely with other Department Heads on ideating and executing strategic initiatives.
Collaborate with content leaders across TEGNA to maximize the sharing of our content and to leverage innovation and best practices among stations
Teach, coach, and mentor the entire newsroom in best practices for writing and producing content
Perform other duties, as assigned, to drive and fulfill the mission while abiding by the values of this organization
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and news leadership experience preferred
5-7 years of content experience, including generation of original content, and 2-3 years managing other journalists. Proven track record of holding people accountable
Successful innovative leadership and staff and product development skills
Exceptional planning and execution skills
Outstanding communicator
Be a proven, courageous innovator in developing shows, content, text and community events
Be a proven winner in breaking news content on all platforms
Have a history of hiring the best and brightest journalists, storytellers and video producers.
Solid journalistic judgement and a news philosophy that emphasizes accurate, fair and unique local content, along with community engagement.
Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems.
Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism.
Skills in producing engaging, content-driven newscasts and digital content.
Strong social media skills, including an active news hound presence on Twitter and Facebook.
Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics a plus.
Organizational skills and the ability to work under time pressure deadlines.
Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events.
