The Opportunity

WQAD-TV, a TEGNA Company, is looking for a driven, solutions-based National Sales Manager (NSM).  This candidate must be an effective motivator and innovative thinker working with a team comprised of our Sales Assistants, Account Manager and Sales Management Team.

The NSM ideally will establish and grow strong relationships in Transactional Sales.  We’re looking for an idea person and strategic thinker who not only creates sales opportunities for advertisers but also helps in the continuing development of our entire team.  This position reports directly to the Director of Sales.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and conduct weekly conference calls with key Tele Rep offices and provide product information, specials, inventory updates, pricing strategies and obtains accurate sales forecasting by reviewing pending activity from each National office
  • Assist Director of Sales and Local Sales Manager by providing competitive inventory or pricing recommendations regularly
  • Maintain high visibility with reps and buyers in key national billing offices
  • Provide Director of Sales with a month-end report on national sales progress
  • Ensure key billing Tele Rep offices provide accurate account profile information as well as sales forecasting
  • Compile a monthly sales update consisting of rate card, sports and specials sheet and programming information sheet which will be distributed to each Tele Rep sales office
  • Directly supervise the NSA and AM. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
  • Responsibilities include: planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; resolving problems
  • Develop incremental revenue opportunities within new and existing national/regional advertisers as they relate to all platforms
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must have proven track record in broadcast, specifically in Transactional sales
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills required
  • Must have strong time management and organizational skills; candidate must be able to work in a fast paced, high-pressured, evolving environment
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills for motivating staff and maximizing revenue performance
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Wide Orbit Sales, Matrix, Strata, Wide Orbit Traffic and qualitative data
  • Knowledge of all facets of national and political advertising sales
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task and follow-through projects to completion
  • Strong presenter and communicator with internal and external customers and partners

Preferred Skills

  • College degree preferred
  • Four years of sales management is preferred, and national sales management experience is a plus
  • Experience with political broadcasting rules and regulations
