Multi-Skilled Journalist
WATN/WLMT, the TEGNA station located in Memphis, TN, is looking for a creative and innovative multi-skilled journalist. We are searching for someone who cares about their work, their community, and their co-workers. The next multi-skilled journalist for our team will be able to discover unique and shareable stories for all platforms. We are looking for someone who can ask tough questions and bring to light the stories our community needs and desires to hear. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who loves shooting, writing, and editing.
Responsibilities:
- Shoot, write, and edit on-air and digital content within deadlines
- Establish sources, utilize social listening skills, cover breaking news, and pitch unique community-based ideas
- Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility
- Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic way
- Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell compelling stories
- Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (“user generated
- content”/UGC, virtual/zoom interviews, etc.) to enhance stories
- Deliver active, engaging live shots, and standups
- Write and post daily on all digital platforms including WATN-branded social media accounts
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience required
- 2-5 years of producing original content is preferred, as well as strong social media skills, including an active presence on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver compelling and promotable stories
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work in a rapid, fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of ENPS and Edius is a plus
