WXIA-TV in Atlanta, GA is looking for a dynamic and engaging meteorologist for the weekend. This position is responsible for preparing and delivering accurate weather reports for newscasts, webcasts and social media. But it’s more than just numbers and graphics. . The successful candidate must have a passion for winning severe weather and telling a compelling weather story. We're looking for a team player who can not only forecast but also prepare graphics and report live in the field. The ideal candidate embraces new technology and is willing to explore new ways to present the weather story including the use of live cameras and user generated content. The best candidate will already understand and embrace the significance of having a strong weather presence on social media and possess a multi-platform approach to weather coverage. (WXIA is a TEGNA Media, Inc., station and a NBC Affiliate)

Responsibilities:

• Research, prepare and deliver daily weather content utilizing all available weather data, graphics computers and radars.

• Prepare and deliver severe weather updates, interrupting regular programming as necessary.

• Prepare and update all weather content over multiple platforms including web and social media. 

• Produce clean, creative and informative graphics to tell the weather story

Write and report from the field or inside the newsroom. Environmental/climate change reporting experience is a plus .

  • Update website and interact with viewers on social media platforms daily
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Make public appearances
  • Effectively and positively reflect the station in the community at all times.
  • Fill in on other shifts when necessary.

Requirements:  

 

  • Four-year college degree in Meteorology, Geoscience or Atmospheric Science.  
  • At least 3 years’ on-air meteorology experience required 
  • Knowledge of WSI preferred. Be proficient at posting content to various websites and social media; computer literacy required, including weather and newsroom computer systems. 

 

Work Environment: Office 

Physical Demands: Light work 

Travel: Rarely: less than 10% 

Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment 

Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
