TEGNA is looking for a dynamic, business-minded Group HR Director for a great opportunity supporting an innovative media company.  The Group HR Director leads the HR function for TEGNA’s Southeast region, to include TEGNA television stations in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.  This includes regular communication with all HR Business Partners and station General Managers in the region on matters such as culture, leadership performance management, talent strategy and talent priorities, succession planning and effective employee relations.   The Group HR Director will be instrumental in facilitating an employee-oriented, high performing, diverse and inclusive workplace culture and must provide quality leadership to the HR Business Partners and General Managers across the region. 


  • Lead HR function for the region and HR oversight for a group of stations, usually 7-10.
  • Primary HR Business Partner support to one station (and temporarily as needed).
  • Serve as a creative and strategic partner to station leadership, aligning human capital needs with company objectives.
  • Strengthen management capabilities by providing guidance and coaching to managers and employees on the full range of people issues including employee advocacy/engagement, employee relations, performance management, career development, talent assessment, acquisition and retention and workplace investigations.
  • Champion diversity; drive and lead efforts to promote a diverse and inclusive work culture
  • Partner with stations to develop policies and programs to attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce.
  • Manage and develop HR talent for the region and division wide.
  • Work collaboratively with the broader Human Resources team on special projects and initiatives and best practice sharing.
  • Lead regional and local early career recruiting through relationships with local schools.
  • Effectively communicate TEGNA’s value proposition to external candidates and serve as a brand ambassador for the company.
  • Provide excellent customer service in terms of responsiveness, time management and communication.
  • React productively to change, effectively work at an operational level with multiple stakeholders, and act quickly and confidently under pressure.
  • Handle complex and/or sensitive day-to-day people issues.
  • Understand and adhere to local, state and federal employment-related laws.


  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Human Resources or related field.  Master’s degree or HR certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-years of HR generalist experience is required, with heavy emphasis on leadership development, succession planning, employee relations and HR business partnering with leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly establish effective relationships, collaborate, lead and influence.
  • Record of success advising managers on the full range of HR/people issues.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver results for multiple stakeholders.
  • A working knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
  • Strong ethical standards and integrity.
