WMAZ, the number one television station in Macon, Georgia is seeking a first-time Executive Producer to learn how to be a creative, ambitious newsroom leader to transform our content daily in our new, unique, two-year program called Manager-In-Residence. The Executive Producer will follow a robust, pilot training program in TEGNA designed to expose them to all facets of newsroom leadership while giving them daily opportunities at leading a team of producers, reporters, photographers, and digital staff to craft impactful content that is highly engaging and memorable.

This job is perfect for outstanding journalists with 2-3 years of newsroom experience who want to advance quickly into their first news management position with a dedicated, one-of-a-kind training program in one of the best stations in the country.

Responsibilities:

• Lead teams in the creation of unique, shareable content

• Skillfully use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content

• Work with staff to identify and assign content appropriately for each platform

• Encourage innovation, risk-taking, and powerful storytelling in crafting great newscasts

• Inspire enterprise stories and coordinate special coverage with the news leadership team

• Oversee selected newscasts to ensure the brand promise and strategies are met

• Train producers

• Regularly critique newscasts with the staff, both as a team and with individual producers

• Identify daily opportunities to have our news get noticed and reach new audiences

• Challenge the norm

• Help create a multi-platform experience

• Work collaboratively with other managers and perform tasks as required by News Director and Digital Director

• Set plans and coverage expectations for newscasts, digital & social

 

Requirements:

• 2-3 years newsroom experience preferred

• Strong understanding of the tenets of professional journalism

• Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, photojournalism, editing, and content management systems a plus

• Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines

• BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related a plus

Work Environment: Office

Physical Demands: Sedentary work

Travel: Rarely: less than 10%

Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
