12News, the TEGNA NBC affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona, is seeking a dynamic Chief Photographer to manage our award-winning staff of photojournalists, a leader who knows how to inspire continued excellence from our team. Our Chief Photographer is responsible for working closely with newsroom managers in developing a culture of innovative, visual content across all 12 News shows and platforms and ensuring gold standard quality video and audio standards. Our Chief Photographer manages, evaluates and develops a team that can cover everything from in-depth breaking news, to enterprise feature storytelling, to sports, to special coverage of major community events. 12 News is the 2020 Rocky Mountain Emmy Award winner for Overall Station Excellence, News Excellence, and Best Evening Newscast and the Official Home of the Arizona Cardinals.


  • Work closely with assignment desk manager and news managers on scheduling to ensure that there is appropriate coverage to support the needs of a 24/7, 365 day/year newsroom
  • Approve employee timecards and time-off requests within a timely manner, in conjunction, with news management
  • Collaboratively develop and refine visual standard best practices, trainings and dept. workflows
  • Track and manage news fleet, gear, and equipment and supplies to address quality and safety concerns
  • Coordinate with Tech/Ops team to ensure all fleet management service and safety requests are addressed in timely manner including all MVD registrations, emissions, and insurance records
  • Serve as point of contact, along with Tech/Ops team to maintain smooth operation of all satellite and transmission, and content delivery systems
  • Work with news managers to develop and execute large scale event coverage, like Election Day, live remotes, and Special Events including Super Bowl, Olympic Coverage, Presidential Visits, and Turkey Tuesday
  • Shoot and edit stories regularly with Edius and other editing platforms as needed
  • Source and recruit robust pipeline of qualified candidates for open photojournalism and ENG positions
  • Regularly coach and provide feedback to team to continue professional development, including satellite training, ENG, Drone, and emerging platforms
  • Work with news managers to address and performance concerns and conducting annual performance reviews and goal setting


  • 10+ years network or major market experience
  • College degree in relevant field and/or relevant training and certification history
  • Self-Motivated leader with proven problem-solving abilities
  • Commitment to continuing to foster a culture of team work, collaboration, and innovation
  • Keen knowledge and interest in emerging technologies and industry best practices
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and organizational Skills
  • Ability to make quick, sound, ethical decisions while working under strict deadlines
  • Willingness to work overtime, flexible shifts, and holidays as needed
  • Strong computer skills in a mobile environment
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle high-profile projects with meticulous attention-to-detail
  • Membership to National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) a plus
  • Certification as commercial drone pilot a plus, or willingness to obtain one
  • Ability to operate ENG van and live remote equipment a plus
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and good driving record
